  • Pertinent reflections over your work and your groups work in general:

I enjoyed doing research on how to better my privacy throughout the Internet and working with other women with similar interests in how to better our knowledge of the word wide web. I couldn’t have asked for a better group of women who also seek to better their privacy through the Internet. I hope these girls take this presentation as a learning lesson into how to better present themselves professionally in the workplace.

My list of professional feeds mostly concludes of blogs or newsfeeds that cover the basis of cinema production and all its diverse aspects.

In 4K Shooters they are focusing on the side of film that involves cinematography, and the science of the cameras used in production. Also, they highlight and show their respects to different DPs (Directors of Photography) from independent to blockbuster cinema.

Film and TV Production Mag and Indie Film Hustle have a more broad grasp on the life of production, but they differ in showcasing feature blockbuster films, compared to Indie Film Hustle that covers more independent feature and short films.

IVY Coach is a blog I chose to follow on Feedly for their tips to getting ahead in university studies, which is helpful as I am a film production student. Again, falling on professional information.

No Film School is a blog dedicated to providing links and resources into film production for readers who don’t require a diploma in order to form interest in how to make a good movie. I like how they feature different independent film, and point out how easily you can replicate techniques shows in those films.

My personal interests conclude of fashion,  film, culture, and socio-political events that surround everyday life. From Dazed to Rotten Tomatoes, these feeds shape the influx of daily information I prefer seeing on my newsfeed.

Dazed and Confused Magazine features stories like underground music, editorial fashion, and current events in media. It is magazine that focuses on the subcultures of mainstream music, art, and film.

The Cut is a fashion editorial magazine I like to follow for their short fashion history videos. They relate to how life imitates art, and how culture can have its reflection onto certain style or trends of whatever decade they’re in.

Vice and Vox are both very informative magazines written under a millenial tone of voice, with other youthful editors who try to maintain an unbias but informative point of view on heated topics occurring worldwide.

Rotten Tomatoes is a helpful site on current blockbuster and independent films premiering internationally. I keep this blog in my feed to find reviews on current movies, and see the publics opinion on whether the film is flourishing or flopping.

After the Storm

In the wake of Maria, I stuck speaking to my father on the phone until the connection was shut down completely. We were up until late at night, talking about how the family has been, and what precautionary measures were taking in the light of this storm. None of us, really knew, how horrible the effect the hurricane left would be. This time last year I had already been starting classes in Towson University, located in Baltimore, Maryland. Being located in the US while my family was going through this tragedy, was one of the most heart wrenching experiences I could have gone through.

My family was living in Vega Alta at the time, while most of my other Puerto Rican family members were in the town of Cupey. The day after the hurricane, I had contact with none. This, of course, brought the worst ideas as to how and where they were. One by one, Tweets and Facebook posts started rolling in. The first I saw of anywhere close to Vega Alta were photos of Toa Alta, Dorado, completely flooded. I saw pictures of the businesses off the exit on the highway of Dorado, underwater, showing only the signs submerged.

Still, no contact with my parents, but my aunt in Cupey managed to get some sort of connection after the third day. It would not be until two weeks later, that I would receive a phone call from a 787 number at 10am on a Saturday morning. It was my father, calling from someone else’s phone at the gas station. The calls were sporadic one week in, but then they became more frequent, and after a few weeks I would soon be able to call their own phone number instead of waiting by my phone and wait for them to be able to reach me on someone else’s.

Although I was not physically in Puerto Rico during my Maria, it had felt that my heart escaped and lost connection with my family in Vega Alta. I felt the diaspora badly, and continually checked on my friends to see if they were okay. My weekend consisted of dropping off supplies at the many business offering to donate items to Maria, and Puerto Rico’s crisis became my personal battle. Many of my friends also dealing with the diaspora felt similar sentiments. And in the wake of this humanitarian crisis, we all became close to one another, tangled in our traumas and intertwined with our longing for our people and isla of Borínken.
